2024 Radiation Disaster and Medical Science Research Center Triangle Project – Application Guide

Introduction

This project makes use of the network characteristics of the Center to promote the forming of research teams combining researchers (professors, associate professors, lecturers, and research associates) affiliated to two or more of the research institutes that make up the Radiation Disaster and Medical Science Research Center.
 It started in April 2017 as an inter-university initiative of the Radiation Disaster and Medical Science Research Center, but it has changed to a joint usage and research system between researchers affiliated to the said three research institutes, so please do not hesitate to apply.

Application subjects

 The subjects and keywords of the applied research are as follows.

 In addition, a new theme, “Medical Radiation Research,” has been set for FY2022.

Subject Keyword
Low dose radiation effects and health risk study thyroid cancer, molecular epidemiology, radiation risk assessment and management, animal experiment systems, cellular experimental systems, genomic variation, DNA damage response and DNA repair, genome medicine.
Radiation casualty medicine regenerative medicine, side effects of radiation medical treatment and their reduction, oncology for victims of radiation disaster medicine, medical care for victims of radiation sickness.
Social impact of a radiation disaster and radiological protection risk communication, epidemiology, radiological protection, and dose assessment.
Medical radiation research assessment of human health effects from medical radiation exposure, development of radiation diagnosis and therapies, and bridging clinical research.

Research period

From 1st April, 2024 to 31th March, 2025

Application/selection procedures

*Please note that you will have to re-apply in the case of subjects continuing from the FY2023.

(1) New applications
①Provisional application
Applicants must complete the required items in Attachment 1 and then submit the form by 30th November, 2023 (Thursday) to theResearch Center Headquarters Administrative Office e-mail address.
 A joint application from two or three Research Center researchers is generally required but independent applications are also allowed. Applicants are required to submit applications individually.
 Please state in the application form whether the research is to be conducted with associates (limited to researchers (professors, associate professors, lecturers, and research associates) from other departments affiliated to the universities belonging to the Research Center).
②Matching notification
Applicants will be matched by three coordinators selected from each university per subject, and the results will be notified by the Research Center Headquarters Administrative Office to the applicant concerned.
③Proceed with application
The applicant concerned notifies the Research Center Headquarters Administrative Office about whether to proceed with the application in line with the matching results.
④Notification of application form receipt
The Research Center Headquarters Administrative Office sends confirmation of receipt of the application form to the applicant concerned.
⑤Notification of result
A meeting will be held at the Research Center Headquarters to review the received application and make a decision about whether to adopt it as a Triangle Project or not. The results will then be notified by the Research Center Headquarters Administrative Office.
⑥Notification of allocation of activity support costs
Allocation of the Triangle Project activity support costs shall be notified by the affiliated research institute director and the Center director respectively.
(2) Ongoing research application
①Application
Applicants must complete the required items in Attachment 1 and then submit the form by 30th November, 2023 (Thursday) to the Research Center Headquarters Administrative Office e-mail address.
②Notification of result
A meeting will be held at the Research Center Headquarters to review the received application and make a decision about whether to adopt it as a Triangle Project or not. The results will then be notified by the Research Center Headquarters Administrative Office.
③Notification of allocation of activity support costs
Allocation of the Triangle Project activity support costs shall be notified by the affiliated research institute director and the Center director respectively.

Changes to the Details of Research Center Researchers

To change the list of Research Center researchers, the person responsible for reporting this issue must submit attachment 2: “Radiation Disaster and Medical Science Research Center Triangle Project – Notification of Changes to Details of Center’s Researchers” to the Research Center Headquarters Administrative Office.
 The results of the review held by the Radiation Disaster and Medical Science Research Center Headquarters will be notified at a later date.

Points of Concern

(1) In the case of independent applications, coordinator matching will be conducted and those results will be notified.
(2) Procedures such as an ethical review must be completed by applicants themselves by the beginning of the research.
(3) Please submit a report after the end of the research. We will notify you separately about the report form format, etc.
